The Road Ahead

Fundraising has not become any easier. I sent out a email to friends and family talking about my trip and only had 1 donation. I’m trying to figure out how to get more donations, and figuring I’ll have to make an attempt at social media next. Anyway to keep up the history of Rwanda leading up to my trip, I have found an interesting topic

In WW2 Rwanda was actually part of Germany for a short time. Around 1884 around two decades before WW2, the Society for German Colonization was formed to acquire lands overseas. In the same year after a meeting with committee leader Karl Peters, the nation became a protectorate of Germany.

1885, German East Africa was born containing Rwanda and other African countries. As WW2 later arrived, Rwanda became occupied by Belgium forces in 1916. It looked something like this.

A couple years later Rwanda joined the League of Nations under a mandate of being governed by Belgium. They didn’t gain their independence until July 1st, 1962. Rwanda would already become a Hutu tribe dominated country just a year later.

I will continue this week to find more ways to fundraise. If you would like to help me on this journey please visit the link here. Thank you so much and have a wonderful week!

Catch You Later,
