The slow start

It’s been about a week since my last blog, and I’m still setting up my base of operations. I finally set up a page in which I can accept donations towards my trip, and created a public profile on that site so that people can find me.

In the meantime, I dove into more Rwandan history. I talked to a friend Edward, who originated from Uganda, and he told me his experience. The Tutsi were more commonly the higher leaders, and around the time of the genocide, the Hutu started showing an enormous amount of support towards a new candidate. With the political leader Augustin Bizimana, of Hutu nationality, he had taken the Minister of Defense position after the assassination of the previous Minister. With control of the arms and military, the massive support he had, he was a primary leader in the Rwandan genocide.

This next week I hope to start my fundraising, reaching out to friends and family. I created a newsletter to send out, and I am going to start being more public about this trip. I’ll be back next week, thanks for reading and being a part of this journey!

See you around,

Dominic Desiderio
