The start of the epic journey
Dear Readers,
This is my first blog ever, so I’m pretty new to this. My mother suggested I write in it like a journal or a letter to a friend, so I will try to format my posts in one of those two structures.
For those who don’t know me, I’m Dominic Desiderio, and I am a sophomore at a Christian high school in Colorado. I’ve been invited to join a Missionary team at my school that is working with Hope Haven Rwanda to support them with efforts to improve the communities they work in, including by providing manual labor, water support, and helping within their schools. Our team will be focusing on access to clean water and creating community support for the schools.
Our team has had our first meeting, and we went over some of the history of the trips that the school has taken with Hope Haven Rwanda in the past. I got to know some of the people on my team, the majority of whom are juniors. After getting to know some of the people on the team, I think this is going to be epic because they seem as motivated as I am. After our first meeting, I laid out what I think the challenges of this trip are going to be the manual labor, and the hot climate. I also wrote a letter to my family and friends telling them about the trip, and about how I was starting this blog but I have to wait for my fundraising profile to be approved to send it out. I am thinking about starting a social media page or account of some type to share updates as well.
I think my biggest challenge is going to be fundraising, because I have to raise almost four thousand dollars before the trip at the end of June. I think this is most challenging because I am not usually so vulnerable and sharing what I am nervous, excited, or even scared about. I’m going to start being more open about how I feel about the trip, and what I’m praying for. I’ll be posting weekly to the blog and I hope to send out emails pretty regularly. I want to involve as many people in this journey with me as possible, so if you know anyone else who may be interested in learning about Hope Haven Rwanda, feel free to comment below.
